Royal Mail And Arrival To Outline Electric Vehicle Opportunities At Microlise Transport Conference
Royal Mail, operator of one of the largest commercial fleets in Europe, and electric vehicle company Arrival, will discuss the potential of electric vehicles and outline the findings of their innovative trial at the Microlise Transport Conference in May 2018.

Their joint session on the main stage will look at the benefits, the barriers and what the future holds for heavy electric vehicles and their uses in industry.

At the conference, the largest in Europe for road transport, Grahame Bennett, Royal Mail’s Head of Fleet Engineering, will discuss the work being undertaken by the UK postal service, which operates over 49,000 vehicles. Matt Key, Chief of Business Development at Arrival, will talk technology, looking at the possibilities of electric now and how the company is breaking down the barriers to widescale adoption.

Arrival has provided Royal Mail with nine 3.5-tonne, six-tonne and 7.5-tonne vehicles capable of travelling for 100 miles on a single charge. Royal Mail is currently using these vehicles in and around London to move mail between its distribution centres in the city and its mail centres.

“We aim to give every fleet the opportunity to change the way it transports goods and make our towns and cities better places to live in,” said Matt Key, Chief of Business Development, Arrival. “The Royal Mail trial is an important step in making affordable, elegant, quiet, clean and safe vehicles and to remove the main barriers by pricing them in line with conventional trucks.”

The free-to-attend Microlise Transport Conference attracted over 1,200 delegates earlier this year, filling the 6,000 square metre hall at The Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The conference is building on its innovation and technology focus in 2018, offering insight on the industry’s big topics from platooning and alternative fuels; to skills, compliance and inevitably, the effects on the industry of Brexit.

“We’re looking forward to sharing our experiences of how we are using electric vehicles, including those provided by Arrival, at the Microlise Transport Conference,” said Grahame Bennett, Royal Mail Head of Fleet Engineering. “We are currently putting them through their paces and finding out how they cope with the heavy demands we require, with the view to further adoption of electric in the future.”

In 2018, the main conference agenda will be supported by three focused workshops, an all-new innovation zone and a sizable exhibition area featuring prominent transport brands, innovators, industry organisations and other special guests.

“All eyes are on electric’s potential to transform the logistics industry,” said Bob Harbey, Executive Director, Microlise. “We’re very pleased with how the conference agenda is shaping up this year. This is just part of an enhanced programme and speaker line-up which is set to be the biggest to date with a focus on providing clarity on the most innovative companies and mobility solutions coming to market.”

Past speakers include some of the industry’s most distinguished influencers including HRH The Princess Royal, operators such as Eddie Stobart Logistics and Maritime Transport, the DVSA, Traffic Commissioners for Great Britain and Transport for London. Many of Europe’s main HGV manufacturers have also been represented.

Alongside the conference, the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards will again celebrate the UK’s most talented HGV drivers, both through analysis of more than 180,000 drivers’ telematics data, and via industry nominated categories. These include HGV Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Extra Mile, Most Improved and Young Driver of the Year.

The Ricoh Arena is conveniently located in the centre of England within a two-hour drive of 75% of England’s population. To register for the Microlise Transport Conference, go to www.microliseconference.com.
