Enquiries at ‘all-time high’ at IT firm as businesses prepare for GDPR
A Sheffield-based IT company has seen a rise in enquiries for security upgrades as businesses prepare for the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) guidelines.

One in four Millgate customers are upgrading their security systems to strengthen and unify their data protection ahead of GDPR - the biggest shake-up to the EU’s data protection law in 20 years.

Companies have until May 2018 to review their policies and ensure they are proactive and compliant with cyber security before GDPR becomes legislation.

Chris Calvert, Managing Director of Millgate, based on Vantage Drive in Sheffield, said: “GDPR overhauls previous data protection directives and companies must ensure they are compliant with the new directives before the May 2018 deadline – or will be at risk of substantial fines and reputational damage.

“As a result, our enquiries are at an all-time high, with a quarter of our customers already beginning to prepare. While currently no one product or service meets all the GDPR guidelines, every seller is releasing products to help with specialist areas, including DELL’s Data Security Solutions with encryption to help protect both against the likelihood of a security breach arising and mitigating the adverse consequences of any breach.

“Because of simple, comprehensive and flexible solutions like this, organisations can quickly gain business assurance, easier data protection and demonstrate GDPR compliance.”

Added Chris: “Security breaches are already a major source of reputational damage and erosion of customer confidence, as well as a cause of economic loss.

“The arrival of GDPR is set to make security and data protection a more important issue than ever – it will be a priority on every business’ agenda and we expect to see customer enquiries continue to rise as a result.”
