AWS props up Amazon as results weaker-than-expected

Amazon’s results were weaker-than-expected, with labour shortages, higher employee costs and supply chain issues all hitting their bottom line. However, just as with the recent Google and Microsoft’s earnings, their cloud business has seen notable growth. Without the impressive jump in profits from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon would have recorded a loss for the quarter.

With remote working here to stay, AWS offerings are expected to remain central to how many businesses now operate. AWS provides on-demand cloud computing tailored to individual businesses. Therefore, the cloud division is expected to remain central to Amazon’s overall success.

As cloud growth is only set to accelerate in the coming years, it seems AWS may remain Amazon’s golden goose for some time still.
