Domino Celebrates Production of 1000th R-Series Machine Vision Inspection System with Lake Image Systems
Domino Printing Sciences (Domino), the trusted global provider of complete variable data printing solutions, is celebrating a production milestone with Domino Group Company Lake Image Systems: shipping its 1000th R-Series machine vision inspection system.
Following the acquisition of Lake Image Systems in July 2020, Domino has succeeded in bringing vision inspection expertise to its manufacturing and digital printing customers, through its solutions offerings and with the launch of the R-Series range of machine vision systems. This latest milestone reinforces Domino’s capability as an expert provider of fully integrated product printing and label verification systems designed to integrate with Domino’s full range of coding and marking and digital printing technologies.
Adem Kulauzovic, Director of Automation, Domino, comments: “As experts in variable data printing, Domino recognises the importance of product label verification and the value to our customers in reducing complexity by offering a complete, end-to-end solution from a single trusted partner. We are so proud to announce our latest production milestone as part of our ongoing commitment to ‘Do more’ for our customers.”
As legislation on the labelling of consumer products becomes stricter, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in product labelling operations has never been greater. Yet, product printing errors continue to persist, posing significant cost and risk in manufacturing:
- Undeclared allergens have been the top contributor to US food and beverage recalls for four continuous years
- In 2023 the number of food recalls in Europe increased by 18.5%
- The average cost of a product recall is $10m
Martin Keats, Managing Director, Lake Image Systems, adds: “Fully integrated coding and inspection systems help to dramatically decrease a manufacturer’s risk of recalls due to labelling errors – eliminating the need for manual inspection and reducing the risk of an incorrectly printed product leaving a manufacturing site unnoticed. Domino and Lake Image Systems’ strategic relationship puts us in an ideal position to deliver closed-loop quality control solutions; the technologies have been developed to work seamlessly alongside each other and are designed to meet our customers’ specific business requirements.”
Domino’s recently launched addition to the R-Series product line, the R-Series i-Tech, reinforces its commitment to bringing additional value and expertise to its global customer base. The newly launched product includes superior, high-performance functionality for demanding applications, increased processing power, the capability to operate two cameras on a single production line for wrap-around applications, and advanced software packs.
Tony McNulty, Chief Product Officer, Domino, concludes: “Our relationship with Lake Image Systems and the recent developments within our integrated vision system offering, have helped to bring significant value to our customers in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and industrial production, as well as to our digital print customers who are increasingly utilising digital technologies for variable data printing.”
“This collaboration has always been about doing more; by combining our strengths, we are best placed to deliver innovative solutions to help our customers improve efficiency and reduce waste and risk. We are very pleased to have reached this milestone with Lake image Systems, and we look forward to many more successful years working together.”
