Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust partners with Civica

Civica, a global leader in software for public services has signed a new £3 million, ten-year contract with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the Cito enterprise document and content management system (EDCM).

Civica will provide the cloud enabled Cito software, as part of the Trust’s wider Apollo EHR digital transformation programme, which centred around Epic’s suite of health care products to transform patient care.

Selected following a competitive procurement process, Cito will support the Trust in delivering its paperless and digital strategy. Once Cito is fully implemented with Epic, it will be one of the health sector’s largest cloud EDCM deployments.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ is one of the UK’s largest NHS Foundation Trusts. It provides a full range of hospital and community services for people in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, as well as specialist care for patients further afield including cancer, renal and cardiovascular services. With more than 18,000 staff, the Trust handled 2.6 million patient contacts in 2019/20, including 95,000 inpatient encounters and 1.44 million outpatients’ appointments.

The Trust currently uses a wide range of patient focused IT systems to record patient care, and store patient related electronic content.  The new contract will result in a rationalisation of current content based systems, which with Epic’s EHR, and Cito EDCM lead to more greatly integrated record of care.

Cito will be deployed in the cloud for scalability and ease of access. It will be fully integrated with the Trust’s Epic EHR and, along with Epic, is scheduled to go-live in April 2023. It will deliver a real-time, single view of each patient electronic documents by unifying and structuring these into customisable electronic health record, and with Epic reduce the reliance on paper case notes.
