Helsinki is one of the hottest startup locations in the world – startups featured at the Teknologia 19 fair

Teknologia 19, the leading event in technology in the Nordic countries, will be held in Messukeskus Helsinki from 5 to 7 November. The programme includes talks from several fields of technology, and the fair also offers an opportunity to explore startup companies in the technology sector

The programme of the Teknologia fair features talks on robotics, artificial intelligence, 5G technology and digitalisation projects, among other things. In addition to the programme points, interesting talks and encounters are also available at the stands of exhibitors. So far, more than 400 companies from all over the world have registered for the event.

The most interesting technology startups of the moment are represented at the fair in their own theme area. By mid-August, 12 growth companies in the technology sector have registered for the startup area organised in cooperation with NewCo Helsinki. They will be exhibiting, for example, sensor technology and signal processing, software robotics, sensor systems and industrial drone inspections.

In addition to the theme area, startups can also be explored at the Startup Competition of the Teknologia 19 fair. Applications for the competition will be accepted on the event’s website at www.teknologia19.fi/startup until 8 September. After the application period, the jury will choose 5–7 participants for a pitching competition organised at the Teknologia fair. The competition is organised by the Teknologia fair in cooperation with the Finnish Business Angels Network FiBAN.

“I hope that as many startup companies and entrepreneurs as possible will receive attention and feedback as a result of the competition and fair. The Teknologia fair is a great opportunity for startups to network with potential future customers and other partners. At best, the event can serve as a springboard forward and as a stimulus for product development, for example”, says FiBAN’s Managing Director Amel Gaily.

Thousands of startup companies have been established in Finland in recent years. According to Gaily, Finland offers good opportunities for operating as a growth entrepreneur.

“For example, Helsinki is currently one of the hottest startup locations in the world. There is a very diverse group of entrepreneurs here who support and cheer each other on. Networking and getting help is easy”, says Gaily.

The jury is chaired by Janne Jormalainen, Chairman of the FiBAN Board. The winner of the Startup Competition is awarded a stipend of €10,000 donated by the Finnish Fair Foundation.

“The Startup Competition is one example of the mission of Messukeskus to promote Finnish business. Participating in the startup area is also free for the selected startup companies, for example. It is great that we can be involved in supporting startup companies in the technology sector on their journey to success”, says Sales Team Manager Marcus Bergström, who is responsible for the Teknologia fair at Messukeskus.
