International Identity Day: Managing today’s identity explosion

In today’s business landscape, nearly half of enterprise workforces comprise a variety of non-employee identities. Whether that’s contractors, temporary workers or machines, many identities, all with different access requirements, are tapping in and out of networks – often unchecked.

This lack of visibility for identities that don’t fall under the ‘typical employee bracket’ can have devastating business outcomes. Not only does this lack of oversight make them prime targets for malicious exploitation from threat actors, but often, such identities are often over provisioned rights due to rushed onboarding processes or aren’t properly offboarded. These, often innocent, mistakes leave open opportunities for bad actors to wreak havoc on an organisation and can be incredibly costly. As such, this Identity Day should serve as a reminder to businesses that visibility across all identities is vital in keeping threats at bay – and this goes for employees, non-employees, and machines alike.

AI-enabled identity security is key to ensuring this increased visibility, allowing organisations to see, manage, and control all variations of identity, knowing who has access to what, and why across their entire network – employees as well as non-employees and machines. Having this centralised visibility is crucial for organisations to deal effectively with any suspicious behaviour well ahead of a breach occurring.
