Data Management, Analytics, Data Integration and Data Quality, Business Intelligence (BI)NetApp Cloud Volumes Service Now Available in Google Cloud Region Europe-West 4
NetApp, a cloud-led, data-centric software company, and Google Cloud have further expanded their partnership by offering the NetApp Cloud Volumes Service performance tier to Europe-West 4 (Netherlands), in addition to already available Google Cloud regions Europe-West 2 (London) and Europe-West 3 (Frankfurt). With the availability of this new region, NetApp and Google are enabling companies to obtain a fully managed enterprise-class data service from the most cost-effective data center near them, with the best performance and lowest possible latency.
NetApp Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud is fully integrated into Google Cloud and provides cloud-native file storage service with the performance, availability and security needed to efficiently run enterprise applications like Windows, VDI and SAP HANA and VMware. Customers can deploy the data service directly from Google Cloud Marketplace. It allows storage volumes of up to 100 TB to be provisioned in seconds or restored within minutes after a data loss. In addition, Cloud Volumes Service enables workloads to be moved to the cloud ten times faster than before and operated without any loss of performance. This enables organizations to manage workload migrations more efficiently, from local to hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
“The ability to deliver data quickly and securely wherever it is needed is critical to a successful digital transformation,” says Anthony Lye, senior vice president and general manager, Public Cloud Services at NetApp. “This has been NetApp’s area of expertise for decades. Together, with Google Cloud’s leadership in application development, analytics, and machine learning, we can optimally support companies in their digital transformation”.
“NetApp Cloud Volumes Service helps organizations run their business-critical applications requiring Enterprise Storage, such as VMware or SAP, on Google Cloud with high performance and security,” adds Kevin Ichhpurani, Corporate Vice President, Global Ecosystem at Google Cloud. “We are excited to work with NetApp to expand the availability of Cloud Volumes Service for customers in Europe.”
New features for even more security and efficiency
In addition to expanding regional availability, NetApp and Google Cloud are adding new features to their joint offering to further enhance security and efficiency.
The key features are:
- Cross-region replication: This feature allows customers to automatically mirror volumes from one region to another. This plays an important role for disaster recovery and backups. If data is lost in one region – for example due to a natural disaster – a copy is available at another location. The data can be efficiently and securely replicated and restored without disrupting ongoing operations.
- Terraform support: Through an open source terraform provider, the installation of infrastructure in Google Cloud and Cloud Volumes Service can be automated. This allows companies to optimize their processes and deliver applications even faster.
Cloud Volumes Service now available as a software-based solution for the first time
In addition to hardware-based Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud, NetApp and Google Cloud are introducing a virtualized, software-based variant of the data service. The software-defined file service will be launched in Europe in the Europe-West 1 (Belgium) and Europe-North 1 (Finland) regions. The new solution offers enterprise file features and supports NFSv3.
