Sir Mike Penning MP, Chair of the newly established Road Freight and Logistics All-Party Parliamentary Group, and former Government Minister, will address 1,200+ delegates at the Microlise Transport Conference this May.
He will use his presentation to outline the aims and objectives of the new group, which is formed in partnership with the RHA. He’ll also describe the ways he, his fellow MPs and Peers, hope to tackle the industry’s key challenges.
First elected in his Hemel Hempstead constituency in May 2005, Sir Mike has served as a Minister in the Department for Transport as well as Minister of State for the Armed Forces, among other senior government posts.
Now chairing a new cross-party group on Road Freight and Logistics, Sir Mike is an outspoken supporter of the road transport industry and has an objective for Government, Parliament and the public to understand how important the industry is.
“We are aiming to address the driver shortage and want to ensure that Clean Air Zones are sensibly implemented and do not disrupt supply chains or unfairly tax small businesses. We will also be calling for a sensible implementation period after March 2019 for the industry,” said Sir Mike. “As a passionate advocate for the transport industry, I am grateful for the opportunity to address Microlise Transport Conference delegates and update industry on what we have planned.”
Sir Mike will form part of the main stage agenda at Europe’s largest road transport conference as part of a wider programme featuring an impressive mix of speakers who will cover the major topics affecting road transport businesses, as well as looking to the future.
The Microlise Transport Conference has established itself as the industry’s premier conference, offering an exciting and engaging programme of speakers, complimented by four workshop areas, an exhibition featuring innovative industry suppliers and excellent networking opportunities.
“It’s an honour to have such an influential and well respected advocate for the road transport industry at the conference,” said Nadeem Raza, Microlise Chief Executive Officer. “For a long time, Sir Mike has been a positive voice, showing support for our industry in the corridors of power. With the pressure currently on, we welcome him and look forward to understanding the APPG’s mission, how it can help us and how we as an industry can help it.”
The Chief Executive of the RHA, Richard Burnett confirmed ‘’We are delighted to be working with Sir Mike and that he is taking such a prominent role in helping address the key challenges facing our industry such as skills shortage, Clean Air Zones and Brexit.”
The Microlise Transport Conference is aimed at those working in management or operational roles within fleet operators, regardless of fleet size, industry sector or which technologies they have in place. The one-day conference is free to attend, with a programme designed to provide valuable insights to delegates that inform their business and strategic decisions.
