Cabka-IPS and Drankenpallet Beheer Nederland have been shortlisted for the prestigious Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2019 for DPB Pooling Pallet in category Best Recycled Plastic Packaging Product. The award winners will be announced on 11 April, during the second day of the Plastics Recycling Show Europe taking place at the RAI Amsterdam.
DPB Pooling Pallet is a high-quality pallet made with over 98% recycled plastics originating from Europe. Dranken Pallet Beheer Nederland (DPB), the joint pallet pool for Dutch beverage producers and breweries, replaced more than 700,000 of their wooden pallets, which caused high maintenance and transport costs, with this model from Cabka-IPS. Its smart design takes into account the entire life cycle, which means that if the pallet is no longer usable, it can be recycled to produce new pallets.
BPP i9, DPB Pooling Pallet, met all the DPB requirements. This plastic pallet seamlessly fits into the existing storage and transport systems. It weighs only 25 kilograms and is thus 15 kilograms lighter than the wooden pallet. This makes everyday handling easier while it leads to significant reductions in CO2 emissions. Moreover, improvements were made in terms of load securing and occupational safety: anti-slip strips, rubber blocks and grommets secure the transported goods and prevent slipping from the pallet. The most significant advantage of the BPP i9 is the pallets’ stable design – the breakage rate went down from 25% to 6%, the high quality of use ensures a very long service life to maximize resources. A total of 530,000 pallets are now successfully in use in the DPB’s pallet pool.
“We are very proud that we have again placed our BPPi9 on the shortlist this year. This demonstrates that this is a continuous success story for a pallet made out of almost 100 % recycled plastics that has been accepted by very demanding companies in the beverage industry. It is a great example of significant CO2 emissions reduction through recycled plastics.” Jean-Marc Van Maren, Chief Product Officer Material Handling
Open to organisations and individuals across Europe who are involved in the recycling of plastic materials, the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe are organised jointly by Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) and Crain Communications, organisers of the Plastics Recycling Show Europe. www.prseventeurope.com
