Carousel launches new in-house Priority Customs Clearance service

Carousel, the European service-logistics specialist, has announced the launch of a new customs clearance service, developed to maintain fast transit times and seamless connections, between the UK, Europe and beyond, from 1 January 2021.

Carousel’s new service – Priority Customs Clearance – is an expedited customs clearance service for prioritised consignments to provide high-performance organisations with the rapid transfer of parts and products post-Brexit.

As a completely in-house service, it works in conjunction with Carousel’s in night, early-morning delivery network, to support the preservation of time-critical supply chains at any time of day. Acting as the Customs Broker, Carousel clients will benefit from express imports and exports – including next day deliveries between mainland Europe and the UK and Ireland – plus no complex procedures or paperwork.

Carousel has managed customs clearance processes for more than three decades; however, this is the first time it has been able to offer the service in-house. Requiring significant investment, it’s a move that the company has made to provide organisations with a more effective and highly controlled customs process; one which reduces unnecessary delays.

Underpinned by the logistics provider’s own service and technology platform, the new service is designed to keep clients informed and control, at every step of the process; visibility that can sometimes be lost when the service is outsourced. As part of this enhanced offering, Carousel also offers 24/7 critical response via its in-house resolution teams – located in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland – a differentiator to many standard, third-party services.

Kevin Turner, Chief Sales Officer at Carousel said, “Ensuring that high performance industries can continue to move urgent parts and products, within the same transit times as they could pre-Brexit has been one of our top priorities for 2021. The other is to make sure the process is as simple and pain-free at possible, so our clients can easily manage customs checks post-Brexit. This service has been designed to hit both objectives.

“As an expert operating in these industries, we understand the importance supply chain reliability and consistency can bring – both to our clients and their end customers. That’s why it’s so critical that this service sits in-house within our portfolio, because it’s the only way we can truly reduce the risk of delays. By combining our unique technology, expert team and vast industry experience, we offer organisations the very best service to not only preserve operations but also help them seize all the opportunities next year will bring.”

The new service is just one example of how the company’s ambition to make post-Brexit logistics as seamless, as possible.

Morton Griffiths, Country Director for UK and Ireland, at Carousel said: “Our priority since the start of the Brexit process has been to provide clarity and certainty. During this time, we’ve enhanced our proposition and our Brexit Action Team has spent a lot of time advising our clients to help them get ready.  As well as launching this new service, we’ve also extended our European networks, invested heavily in our service and technology platform Gateway and we’re continuing to explore additional day-time air cargo routes too.

“Our new Priority Customs Clearance Service is not only aimed at giving our clients the certainty they crave, but it also removes much of the risk associated with post-Brexit processes as well as any complex procedures or paperwork for the client too. With time running out before the end of the year, we would encourage anyone that needs support with their brokerage or any part of their Brexit planning to get in touch sooner rather than later.”

The launch of the new service is the latest in a series of updates from the service-logistics specialist regarding the company’s preparation for Brexit. As well setting up a Brexit Action Team and Brexit Helpline in 2017, in May 2019 it announced the launch of its own service and technology platform, Gateway, while in January 2020 it revealed it had extended its Authorised Economic Operator status to a second business unit within the group.

With a completely end-to-end portfolio of services, Carousel continues to run daily in-night air cargo services between mainland Europe and the UK and Ireland each night, and offers a range of flexible final mile delivery options right across Europe.
