Experts in Their Fields: Ardex Automates Material Flow and Logistics with inconso and SAP EWM
Ardex GmbH, a global key player in high-performance specialty building materials, is expanding its existing logistics center in Witten, North Rhine-Westphalia (GER), with a new finished goods warehouse. This includes the construction of a fully automated high bay warehouse (HBW) and the connection of conveyor systems to supply the picking areas. The logistics software specialist inconso is responsible for integrating SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) for managing the warehouse and controlling the complete material flow.
Part of the site’s development is the extensive modernization of the material flow to create the “logistics of the future.” The construction chemicals specialist relies on highly automated solutions with which the company addresses international growth and the increasing digitization of business processes. The automatic HBW, including the conveyor technology, will be controlled by the fully integrated SAP EWM-MFS, which stages the pallets at the picking stations in optimized sequences. The programmable logic controller (PLC) will be connected directly to SAP EWM-MFS without an intermediate layer, so that Ardex receives a homogeneous SAP system landscape from the order to the PLC.
Ardex ensures the satisfaction of several thousand customers in retail and industry by providing finished goods, comprehensive services and a worldwide retail network. “To Ardex, the use of SAP EWM especially represents increased transparency and flexibility in the supply chain so as to create ideal conditions for further growth,” emphasizes Dr. Hubert Motzet, Managing Director of Technology at Ardex. The planned go-live of the extended areas is scheduled for the beginning of 2020.
