Manufacturers need to prepare for the future

Today marks a new beginning for the UK’s Prime Minister. As Boris Johnson steps up to the job, we are reminded by the Confederation of Business Industry (CBI), that a pro-business strategy is essential as we navigate a period of uncertainty.

In light of today’s CBI Industrial trends results – highlighting orders to be at their lowest since the financial crisis – investing in modernisation in the manufacturing sector must be a priority to ensure Britain’s prosperous growth.

Martin Ford, President UK and Ireland Region, GTT, made the following comment in response to today’s CBI results :

“The key message for manufacturers is that whilst they cannot predict the future they can certainly prepare for it, responding to change through modernisation.

The latest innovations in technology – from sensors, to smart devices, robots and RFID tags – are already helping manufacturers drive productivity and compete on a global scale.

However, maximising efficiencies and delivering cross-border trade relies on the ability to connect everything in the value chain seamlessly, irrespective of the inconsistencies of local infrastructure. To achieve this, a low latency, high capacity network is crucial. With this foundation, manufacturers can use the secure, scalable, and efficient power of cloud, edge and IoT applications to overcome industrial change.”
