Regulating when workers can answer emails is the wrong approach to protecting hybrid work
While a “right to disconnect” law is a good idea in principle, it’s out of step with how a modern business operates. Today’s world of work requires flexibility. Whether it’s working with teams in different time zones or with collaboration styles, enabling asynchronous work can help them contribute to projects effectively while at their own pace.
Rather than limiting people to work only within set hours and undoing the positive progress made in recent years, companies need to look at how they can implement asynchronous working across teams. For instance, virtual whiteboards allow employees to leave notes for team members, share ideas and keep managers updated on project progress in real time.
By creating this flexibility, firms will not only be rewarded with higher productivity and impactful outcomes, but also retain talent by creating a culture of trust.
