Two weeks before doors open for the 2021 Engineering Design Show, which takes place 19-20 at Coventry Building Society Arena, organiser MA Exhibitions has announced a whole raft of visitor features and attractions, which will run alongside the 150+-strong exhibition and two-day conference.
3D printed vehicle from Scaled
Scaled will bring its first 3D driving vehicle created under Project Chameleon. The vehicle was designed and manufactured in just a few months, with the chassis completely 3D printed. The Chameleon Platform is a manufacturing cell that can produce many different types of vehicle using the same hardware. Like the reptile it is named after, which adapts its colour to match the surroundings, the Chameleon Platform makes vehicles specifically adapted to their environment. The customer specifies their requirements and receives a vehicle designed to efficiently meet its task.
Nissan Leaf cross -section
AMAP (The Institute for Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice) will be at EDS showcasing the Nissan Leaf and the University of Sunderland’s Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing project. The Nissan Leaf half cross-section model will be on display at this year’s show. Produced in Sunderland, this is the world’s bestselling 100% zero-emissions, electric car.
Celebrating our Engineering Heroes
The #EngineeringHeroes Exhibit (Stand L50) will celebrate the sector’s contribution during the pandemic.
“The way that UK engineering and manufacturing stepped up during Covid-19 to address the shortages of medical and protective equipment was truly inspiring and, as the UK’s largest publisher of engineering titles, The Mark Allen Group is determined this contribution should never be forgotten,” said Engineering Design Show event director Gordon Kirk.
“That’s why over the last 18 months, we brought together all of our engineering brands to launch Engineering Heroes – a campaign to celebrate the people, companies and technologies that have made up engineering’s massive contribution during this time. Over 100 companies supported the campaign, and we are delighted to bring some of these incredible tales to life to life in a new exhibit at the show.
“On stand L50, EDS attendees will see some of these inspirational stories and the incredible people and teams behind them. Dick Elsy – leader of the Ventilator Challenge consortium – will also be kicking off day one of our new Engineer Keynote Stage by exploring the story behind UK industry’s remarkable effort to scale up production of life-saving COVID-19 ventilators.”
The Engineer Keynote Stage, curated and chaired by The Engineer editor Jon Excel, is brand new to EDS 2021 and will play host to an exceptional line-up of industry leading speakers discussing the integral role engineering plays in many critical areas of our lives, including sustainability and healthcare:
- Paul Stein – CTO Rolls Royce: Engineering Net Zero
- Professor Rebecca Shipley – Director UCL: Engineering solutions to the healthcare challenge
- Geoff Grose – Chief Engineer McLaren Automotive: In discussion with John Excell
- Dick Elsy – Chief Executive HVMC: Leading the Ventilator Challenge
- Matt Perren – Airbus Defence and Space: Addressing Earth’s challenges from Orbit
- Professor Rab Scott – AMRC: Future of manufacturing
